Kent Shaw Desire is light & heavy

I may not understand where you're going
and you may not understand where you're going

but still the spring arrives and we lay out this map between us
you trace out the ocean

to speak of its texture like our bodies touching
in the afternoon in the breeze at my window

"desire is light & heavy" you might say
a neighbor has opened his door to let his son run outside

there is a reason to notice the impatiens were pulled in the fall
so that they can return again in the spring

and this is our last time together you admit and I can only believe
the breeze the afternoon or the spring

can we know desire is simple like this map
that has fallen between us

the light touch of your hip when I pull you closer
I will have to remember

I may not understand where you're going
and you may not understand where you're going
